Abstract:
Provided is a method for decomposing a fluorinated organic compound, whereby it becomes possible to decompose the fluorinated organic compound with high efficiency, to prevent the corrosion of a reaction vessel, and to reduce the contamination of the resultant low-molecular-weight fluorinated compound by a metal (excluding an alkali metal and an alkali earth metal). A method for decomposing a fluorinated organic compound, comprising bringing the fluorinated organic compound into contact with subcritical water and molecular oxygen, wherein the amount of the molecular oxygen in the reaction system is one-fold mole or more relative to the molar number of carbon atoms contained in the fluorinated organic compound, substantially no metal element (excluding an alkali metal and an alkali earth metal) exists in the subcritical water, and the temperature of the reaction system is 250˚C or higher and lower than 374.15˚C.
