Abstract:
A method for designing a phase modulation layer of a light-emitting element as an iPMSEL that contains a light-emitting part and the phase modulation layer, which is optically coupled to the light-emitting part, said method comprising a generation step for generating a design pattern of the phase modulation layer, wherein: the phase modulation layer includes a base layer and a plurality of different refractive index regions that each have a refractive index different from that of the base layer and that are two-dimensionally distributed in a plane perpendicular to the thickness direction of the phase modulation layer; and the generation step includes a first step for generating a first design pattern that is a pattern for designing the different refractive index regions such that the distribution of the different refractive index regions corresponds to an optical image which is output by the light-emitting element and that includes bright points which correspond to bright points of the optical image, and a second step for generating a second design pattern from the first design pattern by conducting a process of dividing the first design pattern which has been generated in the first step into a plurality of regions and subtracting at least one bright point from a plurality of bright points included in the respective regions.
