Abstract:

Provided is an optimum usage of a desulfurizing agent for liquid hydrocarbons by which the sulfur content of kerosene can be efficiently lowered without the addition of hydrogen and which brings about prolongation in the lifetime of the desulfurizing agent. A process for desulfurization which comprises removing sulfur and sulfur-containing compounds from kerosene by the use of a metallic desulfurizing agent without the addition of hydrogen, characterized in that the desulfurization conditions satisfy the relationship (1): 1.06 x P_ope^0.44 < T_ope/T₅₀ < 1.78 x P_ope^0.22(1) [wherein T_ope is operation temperature (°C); P_ope is operation pressure (Mpa); and T₅₀ is 50% distillation temperature as determined by “test method for distillation at atmospheric pressure” stipulated in JISK2254 “Petroleum products - Determination of distillation characteristics”].
