Abstract:
[Problem] To clarify a polynucleotide that is a novel causative gene for cancer to thereby provide a method for detecting the aforesaid polynucleotide or a polypeptide encoded thereby and a kit and a primer set for the detection method. [Solution] Based on a finding that a fused gene consisting of a part of PIBF1 gene and a part of RET gene, said fused gene occurring in some cancer patients, is a causative gene for cancer, a method for detecting a polynucleotide that is the aforesaid gene and a polypeptide encoded thereby has been constructed. According to this detection method, a fused gene consisting of a part of PIBF1 gene and a part of RET gene or a fused protein encoded thereby is detected. The aforesaid primer set or detection kit contains a sense primer that is designed on the basis of the part originating in PIBF1 gene and an antisense primer that is designed on the basis of the part originating in RET gene.
