Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for switching an active mode and a sleep mode through real-time traffic and non real-time traffic in a home gateway environment in which consumption power decreases in a situation where a service is not provided to a user in a core network or a home gateway does not provide a service, and a short operating time is maintained by classifying the protocol type and incoming volume of traffic, and variably controlling a sleep mode. The present invention relates to a switching method for a home gateway that enables energy savings using an active mode and a sleep mode, the method including: converting traffic entering a home gateway and processing the traffic in real time if the traffic is real-time traffic; classifying the protocol type and volume of the traffic, setting the value Y, and designating a sleep time to operate in a sleep mode, if the traffic is non real-time traffic; and transmitting a SUR message to the home gateway by a user and decreasing the sleep period Y by one step to operate in a shorter sleep mode than a typical period.
