Abstract:
A method and device are provided for more accurately determining tumor sites by taking into account the effects of the presence of an identification dye on the intensity of fluorescence emitted from porphyrins. This method for determining tumor site involves irradiating excitation light onto porphyrins accumulated in tumor sites of a specimen containing the identification dye, and detecting fluorescence emitted by the porphyrins after excitation, and involves: a step (a) for exciting the porphyrins by irradiating the aforementioned specimen with excitation light; a step (b) for spectral detection of fluorescence emitted from the porphyrins that is in a specific wavelength region that substantially does not overlap with the absorption spectrum originating from the dye; and a step (c) for identification of tumor sites and non-tumor sites on the basis of the fluorescence intensity in the specific wavelength region.
