Abstract:

The invention relates to a method for applying at least one image to a plastic substrate of a security document having the following steps: selecting an image section from electronically stored image data of an image using a selection device; applying a connecting layer to the plastic substrate, the surface area and surface shape of said connecting layer corresponding to the surface area and surface shape of the selected image section, using an application device; and printing the applied connecting layer with a printed image reproducing the image section in such a way that the connecting layer and the printed image are congruent, using a printing device.
