Abstract:
The device of modular construction permits the simultaneous or also non-simultaneous recording and characterisation of the solid and liquid particles and the gaseous components of the exhaust gases on various test supports, with only small or no modification of the test support. The methods are based on the individual or combined usage of laser-induced dispersion, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, laser-induced ionisation spectroscopy, laser-induced atomic fluorescence spectroscopy, IR-/VIS-/UV-laser absorption spectroscopy and laser-induced incandescence. The use of individual or combined usage of devices of the above type permits the analysis of the raw exhaust gas, the conditioned and/or treated exhaust gases for monitoring and checking the working pattern of the engine, the individual components of the exhaust gas treatment and/or the total system on test beds and on the vehicle and can be used for control of the motor and/or exhaust components, such as for example catalysts and particle filters, on test beds and in driven usage, for example, in connection with, or as part of, an on-board diagnostic system.
