Abstract:
A method for controlling an internal combustion engine provided with a fuel injection valve for directly injecting fuel into a cylinder and an ignition plug for directly spark-igniting the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve comprises: comparing an actual behavior representing the behavior of an actual change of an engine rotating speed at the time of starting the engine with a preset reference behavior; and, if the actual behavior and the reference behavior are different from each other, making a mechanical compression ratio of the internal combustion engine higher than that of a case in which the actual behavior and the reference behavior coincide with each other, while switching from stratified charge combustion in which fuel spray injected from the fuel injection valve and remaining around the ignition plug is directly spark-ignited, to homogeneous combustion in which a homogenous mixture is formed inside a combustion chamber to burn the fuel.
