Abstract:

A method for data backup and recovery in a storage system, wherein a source device in a storage system backs up data blocks written in after snapshotting Sn to a backup end device, a logic operation such as an OR or XOR operation is performed on the written-in data blocks and the source data blocks of write data blocks recorded by the snapshot Sn, and the logically operated data blocks are then compressed, improving the compression rate of the data blocks and thereby reducing the volume of data sent to the backup end device, conserving transmission bandwidth. This method can further be applied to data recovery scenarios in a storage system.
