A method for determining a tipping fall or a tipping fall danger comprises the following steps: determining the position of the centre of gravity and a standing base of a person; determining the spatial connection between the centre of gravity and the standing base, comprising the steps: detecting the angular position between lower leg and the associated upper leg and between said upper leg and the torso, and calculating a relative position of an ankle, a part of a foot or footwear of the leg in relation to the centre of gravity, wherein said angular positions and the lengths of the lower leg and the upper leg and a relative position between the hip joint of the leg and the centre of gravity are used. A tipping fall or a tipping fall danger is derived from the extent to which the centre of gravity and the standing base are in relation to one another in the direction of the acceleration of the centre of gravity. The method can be applied in fall protection clothing, among other things.
