The present invention discloses a method and device for determining a deployment need for a point of interest (POI), to objectively and automatically determine the deployment need for POIs of a user so as to increase the efficiency and accuracy of location selection of POIs. The method of determining the deployment need for POIs provided by the embodiment comprises: a server determines, on the basis of geographic location information of users, all target users covered by an area under inspection (S101); determines, for each of the target users, according to the number of POIs having a predetermined function deployed in a set distance range from the target user, an index of deployment need for POIs having the predetermined function of the target user (S102); and determines, according to the index of deployment need for POIs having the predetermined function of each of the target users covered by the area under inspection, a total deployment need index corresponding to the area under inspection (S103).
