Abstract:
A method for fruit vegetable sterilization wherein a strawberry 1 (fruit vegetable), which has a hull 1b sticking thereto and is housed in a package P, is sterilized by irradiating with an electron beam W, and a device therefor. The incident electron beam W is allowed to enter from the direction of the hull 1b sticking to the strawberry 1 so that the part of the strawberry 1 in the shadow of the hull 1b is sterilized. Upon the sterilization, the strawberry 1 is housed in a standing state in the package P. Alternatively, the electron beam is magnetically polarized so as to allow the incident electron beam to enter the package from the direction of the hull. This method can extend the storage period of fruit vegetables.
