A method and device for password inputting is disclosed by the present invention, which relates to the field of information security and solves the problem that passwords inputted by users are easy to be intercepted. Receiving an operation instruction conforming to the 7816 specification and sent by an upper computer; detecting whether the operation instruction is a password check instruction or not; if it is not, sending the operation instruction to a smart card; if it is, receiving a password inputted by a user; encapsulating the password inputted by the user into the password check instruction and sending the password check instruction encapsulated with the password inputted by the user to the smart card; receiving the execution result of the password check instruction returned by the smart card and sending the execution result to the upper computer. The present invention is mainly used in the process of password inputting to improve the safety of the password inputting and enable the password not to be easily intercepted in the process of password inputting.
