Method and device for playing video content are disclosed. The method includes: receiving video content for dynamic insertion into a display slot on a content page; comparing predetermined display dimensions of the received video content with original dimensions of the display slot. In accordance with a determination that the predetermined display dimensions of the received video content are not equal to the original dimensions of the display slot, the method includes: displaying a visual representation of the received video content in the display slot on the content page; detecting a first trigger event indicating user interest in the displayed visual representation of the received video content; in response to detecting the first trigger event, gradually resizing the display slot on the content page to accommodate the predetermined display dimensions of the received video content; and playing the received video content in the resized display slot on the content page.
