Abstract:
A method and device for playing video data of high bit rate format by a player suitable to
play video data of low bit rate format. Any player suitable to play video data of
low bit rate format such as the DVD-VR format cannot play video data of high bit rate
format such as BD-RE format only when the video data is transcoded. Generally, transcoding
video data requires a large storage area. From original navigation information
for video data of high bit rate format, prediction navigation information for
video data of low bit rate format is created. Transcoding is performed for each
division by using the original navigation information and the prediction navigation
information.
