Abstract:
Provided are a method and a device for producing a monosaccharide and ethanol inexpensively and with good efficiency wherein plant waste is used as the starting material for the biomass ethanol and the amount of enzyme used and the treatment time are reduced during the production of ethanol by a saccharification enzyme reaction and fermentation. The monosaccharide is produced by a primary saccharification that involves exposing a biomass to pressurized hot water in order to selectively decompose the hemicellulose contained in the biomass, beating the solid residue after pressurized hot water reaction, and exposing the beaten solid residue to a saccharification enzyme, and a secondary saccharification involving exposing the primary saccharification product to a solid acid catalyst. The resulting monosaccharide is subjected to ethanol fermentation and distillation to obtain purified ethanol.
