Abstract:
A method for determining an artery location (236) on a living subject's skin (217) and positioning a tonometry pressure sensor (240) on the artery location (236) for tonometric blood pressure measurement is provided. The method comprises a non-contact optical search (110) followed by a contact pressure search (120). In the non-contact optical search (110), an optical-sensing unit (221) is used to scan the skin (217) along a scan path (230) while maintaining a pre-determined distance between the unit and the scan path (230). A search region (235) within the scan path (230) and a height profile characterizing the scan path's curvature are determined. The search region (235) is determined such that an artery (215) is predicted to lie thereunder. The artery location (236) is then searched within the search region (235) by the contact pressure search (120), in which the pressure sensor (240) sweeps along the search region (235) and the sweeping is guided by curvature information provided by the height profile. A device using the method is also provided.
