METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING KITCHEN REFUSE

[Problem] To provide a carbonizing means in which organic substances including kitchen refuse are chemically decomposed using a catalyst to yield a carbonization product and which has a satisfactory carbonization efficiency, is compact, and discharges gases that contain no components such as odorous matter, black smoke, and dioxins. [Solution] Kitchen refuse introduced into a drum is stirred using a plurality of stirring blades while keeping the kitchen refuse in contact with a catalyst, the stirring blades having been disposed upright inside the drum and differing in height, to thereby cleave the intermolecular covalent bonds of the organic substances of the kitchen refuse by the electron-attracting function of the catalyst. The organic substances of the kitchen refuse are thereby decomposed into carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and other elements, and the hydrogen is reacted with the oxygen present in the drum to yield water vapor, which is discharged from steam vents together with the nitrogen. The carbon matter only is caused to remain as a carbonization product in the drum. The drum is rotated until the carbonization product grows to a given size, and only the carbonization product is taken out as a treatment product.
