A method and device for video barrage display, comprising: between a video presentation layer and a player user interface operation layer of a video player, creating a barrage layer comprising a transparent data layer and a transparent view layer, the data layer being used to display characters, and the view layer being used to display a picture; according to a category identifier contained in the barrage data, dividing the obtained barrage data of a currently played video into character barrage and picture barrage; transmitting the character barrage to the data layer for display, and transmitting the picture barrage to the view layer for display. Besides the existing character barrage, the solution of the embodiment adds a picture barrage and displays the picture barrage on the created view layer, thus diversifying the presentation and display forms of a barrage, enabling users to vividly express feelings and opinions while watching a video, improving the interactivity between users watching the video.
