Abstract:
Provided is a method for separating plasma in a sample obtained by diluting a very small amount of blood with a blood dilution buffer-solution. When a blood dilution buffer is added to a very small amount of blood of 20 to 100 µL and the biological components in the diluted plasma are to be assayed, the diluted blood cell component and the diluted plasma component must be stored separately to be transported. In the present invention, it was discovered that a polymer gelling agent for plasma separation can separate the diluted plasma from diluted blood cells and plasma when a conventional polymer gel for plasma separation is introduced to a container containing a blood dilution buffer-solution. The diluted blood cells will separate to below the polymer gelling agent and the diluted plasma will separate to above the gelling agent. The method can be used to assay the biological components in blood using a very small amount of blood for determining health status, early detection of disease, and disease prevention. The method has an advantage in that blood can be collected independent of time and place.
