Abstract:
A character input device equipped with a prediction conversion processing unit (3) which extracts from a conversion dictionary (10) a candidate matching the beginning of a read character string; a link prediction processing unit (8) which in response to the finalizing of a phrase, extracts from a learning dictionary (11) candidate phrases that have a linking relationship with the finalized phrase; a display processing unit (9) which displays the extracted candidates; a final determination processing unit (4) which makes a final determination on the candidate phrase selected in response to any of the displayed candidates being selected; and a learning processing unit (6) which registers a finalized phrase with the learning dictionary (11); is further provided with a topic date and time estimation unit (7) which sets topic date and time data in response to the finalizing status of a phrase indicating the date and time. For every finalized phrase, the learning processing unit (6) associates the finalized phrase with the topic date and time data at the point in time of final determination and stores the same in the learning dictionary (11). The link prediction processing unit (8) preferentially displays from among the candidates extracted from the learning dictionary (11) in response to the final determination of a phrase, instead of other candidates the candidate associated with the topic date and time data that matches the topic date and time data at the time of final determination of the previous phrase.
