Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for drilling holes in pig iron in a blast furnace, whereby it is possible to facilitate the tasks associated with drilling blast holes by retain drilling fluid, which tends to leak down behind the pig iron, at drilling sites such as the hole being drilled. Specifically disclosed is a method of drilling holes in pig iron in a blast furnace in order to form blast holes (7) for blasting and breaking up the pig iron (5) remaining in a blast furnace shell (3), wherein a suitable catchment space (8) is formed to the outside of the pig iron on the inside of the blast furnace shell, fluid is stored in the catchment space, and then blast holes are drilled. In order to adjust the fluid level in the catchment space, the drilling fluid from the drill for drilling the blast holes is used as the source of the fluid supplied to the catchment space, and a drainage means comprising a drainage pipe (11) and a valve (12) is further provided.
