Abstract:
Provided is a method for easily and efficiently eliminating radioactive cesium from a waste material contaminated by radioactive cesium. The method for eliminating radioactive cesium includes a heating step for heating a CaO source and/or an MgO source with a waste material contaminated by radioactive cesium to 1200-1350°C, vaporizing the radioactive cesium in the waste material. In the heating step, the type and fraction admixed of each of the waste material, the CaO source, and the MgO source are determined in a manner so that the respective masses of CaO, MgO, and SiO2 satisfy ((CaO+1.39×MgO)/SiO2) = 1.0 to 2.5 (in the formula, CaO, MgO, and SiO2 respectively represent the mass of calcium in terms of the oxide, the mass of magnesium in terms of the oxide, and the mass of silicon in terms of the oxide).
