Title:
METHOD FOR ENABLING AN APPARATUS HEAVIER THAN AIR TO PERFORM A HORIZONTAL, LINEAR AND WING-FLAPPING TYPE FLIGHT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1998/014366
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the field of aviation and more precisely to aircraft engineering. The present invention essentially relates to a method for performing a horizontal, linear and wing-flapping type flight. This method comprises lowering the wings using a force which is obtained by giving said wings a negative attack angle relative to the apparatus horizontal and a positive attack angle relative to the air flow, and by further giving said wings a positive attack angle relative to the apparatus horizontal using the displacement inertia of said apparatus. The parasitic longitudinal vibrations generated in the apparatus body are absorbed by the longitudinal movement of the wings and by the adjunction to said wings of a damper that is longitudinal relative to the flight direction. This invention may be used to bring the characteristics of a wing-flapping type flight closer to that of a gliding flight. To this end, the lift force of the wings is continuously controlled by directing said wings towards the most appropriate flow and by rotation about the longitudinal axis of said wings.
