Title:
METHOD OF END MILL CUTTING FOR HARD BRITTLE MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/023474
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
It is intended to efficiently provide glass as a cutting subject material with a groove of greater than 1 μm depth by cutting with the use of a ball end mill of cemented carbide. Cutting subject material (7) of vitreous inorganic material or hard brittle inorganic material is provided with a groove of greater than 1 μm depth by one-time cutting without damaging through high-speed rotation of ball end mill (1). Preferably, glass plate as cutting subject material (7) is provided with cut groove (5) of 200 μm width and 20 μm depth by one-time cutting with the use of a ball end mill of cemented carbide (1) which is rotated at high speed so that the axis of rotation (9) of the ball end mill (1) has an inclination angle of Ѳ relative to the direction of travel of the ball end mill (1) against cutting-side surface (11) of the cutting subject material (7).
