Abstract:

A method for easily evaluating an optical information medium wherein the quality of a surface of an optical information medium is quantitatively evaluated with high reproducibility by using an artificial fingerprint liquid as a dispersion liquid for evaluation. An optical information medium having a surface with a remarkably excellent antifouling property, on which surface a recording/reproducing beam is incident, is also disclosed. In the method, an artificial fingerprint liquid containing a particulate substance and a dispersing medium in which the particulate substance is dispersible is adhered to the surface of the optical information medium, on which surface a recording/reproducing beam is incident, and the state of the artificial fingerprint liquid drops adhering to the surface is observed to evaluate the quality of the surface of the optical information medium. For example, the quality of the surface of the medium is evaluated by measuring (1) the ratio of the area which is covered by the adhering artificial fingerprint liquid drops to unit area of the surface; (2) the diameters of the artificial fingerprint liquid drops adhering to the surface; (3) the number of the adhering artificial fingerprint liquid drops per unit area of the surface; or (4) the degree of roundness of the artificial fingerprint liquid drops adhering to the surface.
