Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the field of fire-fighting techniques and essentially relates to methods for suppressing and extinguishing large-scale fires that generate ascending gas flows. The traditional methods for extinguishing fires involve throwing a fire-proof extinguishing substance onto the combustion source. However, said substance may fall on the ground from the combustion source or may be removed therefrom by the ascending flow. The extinguishing substance therefore has a limited effect on the combustion source. The fire-extinguishing method of the present invention is characterised relative to traditional ones in that the fire-extinguishing substance consists in granulated materials having a solid or porous structure and whose particles are identical in size. The size of the particles is selected according to their hanging characteristics or to their weighing in the ascending gas flow of the combustion source to be extinguished.
