Abstract:
A method for fabricating titanium and titanium alloy metallurgical products, said method comprising the steps of: subjecting a starting material of titanium sponge to hydrogenation; preparing a hydrogenated titanium powder or mixed powder of hydrogenated titainum and alloyed raw materials; pressing the powder into blanks; sintering into shape; and preparing titanium and titanium alloy metallurgical products. The method allows synchronous ball-milling of hydrogenated titanium sponge and alloyed raw materials to prepare a mixed powder that does not require screening, with a powder yield of greater than 96%. Powder compaction, rapid heat alloying, thermomechanical consolidation and shaping are carried out under the protection of an inert gas atmosphere. The process flow is short and efficient, allowing the fabrication of titanium and titanium alloy products with high density (≥99.6%) and low oxygen content (≤0.25%). The principal mechanical properties of the alloy are superior to those of ordinary wrought titanium alloy, and the cost of production is significantly lower than that of conventional powder metallurgy titanium alloys.
