A three-dimensional shaped article is formed from a liquid material. In the method for forming a three-dimensional shaped article by ejection of liquid droplets through a nozzle of a liquid ejection assembly for ejecting a liquid material onto an object, the liquid material contains at least water and a water-soluble or water-dispersible colorant. The droplet of the liquid has a specific surface area ranging from 0.2 m3/g to 0.5 m3/g as estimated from the volume of a flying single liquid droplet approximated as an ideal true sphere. The liquid droplets having the above specific surface area are ejected continuously onto an object at a frequency ranging from 1 Hz to 100 Hz.
