Abstract:
A method for forming a ferroelectric thin film comprised of a vinylidene fluoride homopolymer, which comprises (i) a step of subjecting vinylidene fluoride to a radical polymerization in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator to prepare a raw powder of a vinylidene fluoride homopolymer having I type crystal structure as a sole or main structure thereof, (ii) a step of forming a thin film on the surface of a base material by the use of a vinylidene fluoride homopolymer having I type crystal structure as a sole or main structure thereof which is prepared from the above raw powder of a vinylidene fluoride homopolymer, and (iii) a step comprising subjecting the thin film formed in the step (ii) to a poling treatment. The method allows the formation of a ferroelectric thin film of a vinylidene fluoride homopolymer having a I type crystal structure on various types of base materials with relatively easy and simple procedures (coating conditions, technique and the like).
