Abstract:

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a design which involves a pearlescent color obtained from coating compositions for automotive bodies and in which a bluish interference color is slight in the highlight part, a yellow transmission color is slight in the shade part, and the color of the colored base coating film can be seen from all directions. The present invention provides a method for forming a multilayered coating film which comprises (1) a step in which a colored base coating composition containing a color pigment is applied to a base to form a colored base coating film, (2) a step in which a glitter coating composition containing an interference glitter pigment and a titanium dioxide pigment is applied to the obtained colored base coating film to form a glitter coating film, and (3) a step in which a clear coating composition is applied to the obtained glitter coating film to form a clear coating film, wherein the titanium dioxide pigment contained in the glitter coating film has volume-cumulative particle diameters D90 and D50 respectively within given ranges, and the mass ratio of the interference glitter pigment and titanium dioxide pigment contained in the glitter coating composition is also within a given range. The present invention further provides a multilayered coating film obtained by the method for forming a multilayered coating film.
