Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for generating electric power or producing hydrogen from a carbon source, and an energy conversion system, the method for generating electric power or producing hydrogen comprising: a chemical conversion step for, in a chemical conversion unit, causing a reaction of a mixture of a carbon source and a solution that contains an intermediate medium, at a temperature at which the chemical exergy of the carbon source exceeds the chemical exergy of the intermediate medium in a reduced state, such that the carbon source is oxidized and the intermediate medium is reduced; an electrochemical conversion step for causing the intermediate medium that was reduced in the chemical conversion step to make contact with an anode of a battery structure of an electrochemical conversion unit that comprises said battery structure and causing oxygen or air to make contact with a cathode of the battery structure such that electric power is generated, or causing water to make contact with said cathode such that hydrogen is produced; and a recycling step for returning the solution that contains the intermediate medium after the electrochemical conversion step to the mixture.
