Abstract:
The invention relates to methods for generating radiation at resonant transitions of metal atoms in mixtures of inert gases with metal vapours which are excited by an electric arc discharge. The technical result of the claimed invention consists in increasing the efficiency and service life of sources of radiation at resonant transitions of metal atoms which are excited in a low-pressure arc discharge. The technical result is achieved in that, in a method for generating radiation at resonant transitions of metal atoms in a low-pressure arc discharge comprising excitation of mixtures of inert gases with metal vapours using an alternating-polarity longitudinal electric discharge with a high frequency, the excitation of the discharge is performed in essence using square-wave current pulses with a duty factor of no greater than 2.0 and a duration which is no greater than the effective life of the resonant state of the radiating atom of the metal.
