Abstract:

Provided is a method for handling an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble substance that changes into a water-insoluble substance over time. Said method includes a step wherein an aqueous solution to be treated, which contains a water-soluble substance that changes into a water-insoluble substance over time, is brought into contact with a nonaqueous organic solvent, extracting the water-soluble substance into the nonaqueous organic solvent. Preferably, the abovementioned water-soluble substance is an alkylbenzene hydroperoxide, the abovementioned water-insoluble substance is an alcohol derived from an alkylbenzene hydroperoxide, and the abovementioned aqueous solution to be treated is an alkaline aqueous phase separated out in the water-washing step of an alkylbenzene hydroperoxide manufacturing method that includes an alkali extraction step, a water-washing step, an oxidation step, and a reaction-solution separation step.
