A method for crash astern operation in which operating means (2a) of a hydraulic clutch mechanism (100) provided on a marine speed reducing and reversing machine (1) is switched, in a stroke, from a forward setting (F) to a backward setting so as to urgently stop the forward cruising, comprising the steps of detecting the number of rotations of a propeller (PN) halfway at the neutral position (N) before the operating means is switched to the backward setting (R), calculating an initial fitting pressure (P¿0?) of a backward driving clutch (90) utilizing the map of the initial fitting pressure (P¿0?) of the backward clutch pressure (Pr) prepared according to the number of rotations of the propeller based on a hull load (SL), setting the backward driving clutch (90) to the initial fitting pressure (P¿0?) when the setting is switched to the backward setting (R), and then increasing the backward clutch pressure (Pr) to the maximum value (Pm) according to a rise of the number of engine rotations (EN).
