Abstract:
A method of joining billets and method of hot rolling, in which a preceeding billet and another following billet on the conveying line on the inlet side of the finishing rolling machine are brought into butt contact with each other at the rear end of the former and the forward end of the latter, respectively, cut to a shape in which the billets are in contact with each other at at least end zones thereof in the width direction with a gap formed therebetween, and locally heated and pressed at joining parts of both billets so as to be joined with joining areas gradually enlarged, so that a length of time required for joining may be cut to be far shorter than that in the conventional method as well as the size of the heating apparatus and the length of the facilities may be reduced.
