Abstract:
A method of joining metallic sheets, in which a die (20) and a punch (40) are used to cause local plastic deformation of a plurality of overlapped metallic sheets (6, 8) through drawing and swaging to join the sheets to one another, comprises positioning a sub-material (16), which is separate from the metallic sheets (6, 8) being joined to one another, between the metallic sheet on a side contacting with the punch (40) and the punch (40) to permit a force, produced when the sub-material (16) laterally extends at the time of swaging, to increase lateral elongation of the metallic sheets (6, 8) being joined to one another, whereby a greater joining force than that in a conventional method can be obtained to provide for a higher joining strength without relying on a change in configuration and construction of expanded portions themselves.
