Abstract:
A carbon black (CB)/PTFE composite porous sheet which can be used as the gas diffusion layer of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell or of an electrochemical device for electrolysis or for an application which is accompanied by an electrochemical reaction, such as a gas sensor, is difficult to handle because the porous sheet is flexible and hence is apt to wrinkle or crease. Provided is a method for easily handling the sheet while preventing the sheet from wrinkling or creasing.
The method is for laminating a composite sheet comprising functional particles and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) and comprises:
preparing the MEA;
preparing the composite sheet;
preparing a release film;
superposing the composite sheet on the release film and pressing the stack at ordinary temperature;
superposing the composite sheet which has been pressed against the release film at ordinary temperature, on the MEA and hot-pressing the resultant stack; and
peeling the release film from the composite sheet.
