Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for manufacturing a low-cost color filter having excellent display characteristics wherein a suitable photosensitive composition is used without employing a photomask. This method enables to highly precisely form black images by extremely suppressing variation in line widths. Also disclosed are a color filter having excellent display characteristics which is manufactured by such a method, and a liquid crystal display using such a color filter. Specifically disclosed is a method for manufacturing a color filter comprising an exposure step wherein a photosensitive layer, which is made of a photosensitive composition and arranged on the surface of a base, is exposed to light. The photosensitive composition contains a binder, a polymerizable compound, a coloring agent and a photopolymerization initiator, and the average particle diameter of a pigment contained in the coloring agent is up to 100 nm. The pigment content in the solid content of the photosensitive composition is at least 30% by mass.
