Abstract:
Provided is a method for manufacturing, by a simple method, a fatty acid chloride that does not cloud and has stable color over time. A fatty acid chloride is produced by causing a fatty acid with a carbon number of 8-22 and one-third to two-thirds molar equivalent, with respect to the fatty acid, of phosphorous trichloride to react and, after static layer separation, removing byproduct phosphorous acid to obtain a reaction product. By refining this reaction product, obtained is a refined product in which the byproduct phosphorous acid is no more than 0.20% by weight as the phosphorous content. 0.03-0.07% by weight of phosphorous trichloride, as phosphorous content, is added to this refined product.
