Title:
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING MOLDED ARTICLE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/058003
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
By the present invention, by irradiating a molded article containing ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene and vitamin E with radiation at a temperature of 0°C or lower to cross-link the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, vitamin E radicals included in the molded article immediately after irradiation can be reduced, the generation of tocopherol quinone by subsequent transposition of vitamin E radicals can therefore be suppressed, and the biological safety of the molded article can be enhanced. By also storing the molded article for at least one day at a temperature of 0°C or lower after irradiation, the rate of reduction of vitamin E radicals or alkyl radicals generated by the irradiation can be decreased. The molded article thus obtained has excellent oxidation resistance and biological safety, and is therefore suitable for use as a medical implant.
