Abstract:
This method for manufacturing an optical fiber strand comprises melt spinning an optical fiber preform and forming a glass fiber, cooling the glass fiber while inserting the glass fiber in a tubular annealing device from an entrance end to an exit end thereof, and cooling the glass fiber, wherein the temperature of an inside wall of the annealing device is made lower than the temperature of the glass fiber, a pressure gradient increasing from the entrance end to the exit end is imparted to the inside of the annealing device, and the average pressure change dP/dL in the movement direction of the glass fiber inside the annealing device satisfies formula (1), where D [m] is the tube inside diameter of the annealing device and L [m] is the length of an internal space of the annealing device in the movement direction of the glass fiber.
