Abstract:

A method for manufacturing a plug includes a step for preparing plug base material (10) having a recessed part (11z) along the circumferential direction of the outer peripheral surface (11) thereof, and an arc thermal spray step for spraying a thermal spray wire on the outer peripheral surface (11) of the plug base material (10) by arc thermal spray and forming coatings (20a, 20b) which include Fe and Fe oxide on the outer peripheral surface (11) of the plug base material (10). The arc thermal spray step includes a dividing step for dividing the outer peripheral surface (11) of the plug base material (10) into a plurality of regions (S1, S2) along the axial direction, and a step for implementing arc thermal spraying in each region (S1, S2). In the dividing step the recessed part (11z) is set as the boundary for the regions (S1, S2). Thus, detachment of the coating at a connection part can be prevented and plug life can be improved.
