Abstract:

A method for manufacturing a polymer insulator comprising a core, a cover provided around the core, and grips for securing the core at its both ends in which the grips and the core are secured imparting a sealing function through pressure contact, at both ends of the cover having a ring-like protrusion, between the cover and the inside diameter at the open end of the grip. The ring-like protrusion is formed integrally with the cover after providing the cover around the core and machining the end part thereof. Then the cover is secured by means of the grips. An end part machining apparatus for use in the method for manufacturing a polymer insulator comprises a core holder, a rotation driver turnable about the central axis of the core around the core holder, and a grinding wheel having a protruding shape for forming the peripheral shape of the cover and attached to the rotation driver rotatably around the center axis of the rotation driver. The protrusion is formed integrally with the cover, disposed around the core, at the end part thereof by turning the grinding wheel, while revolving around the end part of the cover.
