Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a sealed honeycomb structure easily and inexpensively
in which the accumulation of deposit on its end faces is reduced when used in a filter
and sealed depths are uniformized, particularly, the sealed depths around the
honeycomb structure sealed by a slurry-like sealing material are easily uniformized.
In the method of manufacturing the sealed honeycomb structure in which sealed
parts are formed at one opening ends of predetermined cells of the cylindrical
honeycomb structure in which a plurality of cells serving as fluid flow passages
are formed by porous partitions in a honeycomb shape, the slurry-like sealing
material (5) is placed in the holes (3) in a flexible porous member (2) beforehand,
the flexible porous member (2) is pressed against the end face of the honeycomb
structure (6), so that the slurry-like sealing material (5) in the holes of the
flexible porous member (2) is placed into the passages of the cells (7) of the honeycomb
structure (6) to form the sealed parts (7a).
