METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SEALING HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE

This invention provides a method for manufacturing a sealing honeycomb structure (30) comprising a honeycomb base material (1) and sealing parts (15) which, together with both end faces (11,21) of the honeycomb base materials (1), form a complementary check pattern. Masking films (4a, 4b) are applied respectively to both the end faces (11, 21) of the honeycomb base material (1). A slurry penetration hole (3a) is formed in the masking films (4a, 4b) in their parts corresponding to a cell opening end part (7). A deaeration hole (3b) is formed in the masking films (4a, 4b) in their parts which face through the cell (2) the slurry penetration hole (3a) formed parts. Both the end faces (11, 12) to which the masking films (4a, 4b) of the honeycomb base material (1) have been applied, are immersed in a sealing slurry (6) to provide a slurry filled base material (20) which is then baked.
