Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a self-drilling screw wherein a spire is formed on the outer surface of the main body of the screw and a drill edge is formed at the front end of the main body of the screw at the same time to thereby enable self-drilling screws to be manufactured in a convenient and rapid manner. The method for manufacturing a self-drilling screw of the present invention includes a head forming step (S1) which involves striking the rear portion of a rod-type wire (100), using a first punch (20) having a circular cross-section, in a state where the rod-type wire (100) is inserted into a molding groove (11) formed at a main die (10), and which has a tapered portion (11a) at the rear portion thereof, to form the head (110) with a tapered portion (111) at the rear portion of a rod-type wire (100), and again striking the rear portion of the head (110) using a second punch (30) having a protrusion (31) shaped as a driver bit to form a tool insertion groove (112) at the head (110) of the rod-type wire (100); and a spire and drill edge forming step (S2) which involves pushing and rolling the portion below the head (110) of the rod-type wire (100) the head (110) of which has the tool insertion groove (112), in the space between plate-type rolling dies (40) having drill edge forming portions (41) with drill edge forming grooves (41a), to form a spire (113) and a drill edge (114) simultaneously on the rod-type wire (100).
