Abstract:
To provide a method in which an environmentally friendly manufacturing process is used to manufacture a sheet-shaped object that has both an elegant, napped appearance and a soft texture, which have heretofore been difficult to combine, and is also wear-resistant. This method for manufacturing a sheet-shaped object is characterized in that the following steps are performed, in this order: (a) a step in which polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of saponification of at least 98% and a degree of polymerization of 800 to 3,500 is applied to a fibrous substrate in the amount of 0.1-50 mass% relative to the mass of the fibers in the fibrous substrate; (b) a step in which a water-dispersed polyurethane is applied to the fibrous substrate to which the aforementioned polyvinyl alcohol had previously been applied; and (c) a step in which the polyvinyl alcohol is removed from the fibrous substrate to which the aforementioned water-dispersed polyurethane had then been applied.
