Abstract:
Provided are: a substrate including a liquid crystal alignment film for a transverse electric field drive type liquid crystal display element, and a transverse electric field drive type liquid crystal display element including the substrate, which liquid crystal display element is highly efficient, has an alignment control ability, and has excellent burn-in characteristics. Also provided is a method for manufacturing a substrate including a liquid crystal alignment film for a transverse electric field drive type liquid crystal display element, the liquid crystal display element being provided with an alignment control ability as a result of the method which includes: [I] a step for forming a coating film on a substrate, which has a conductive film for the transverse electric field drive, by applying to the substrate, and drying, a polymer composition that contains (B) an organic solvent and (A) a polymer obtained from a diamine component containing diamine represented by formula (1) (in formula (1), L is a divalent organic group containing 2 or more carbon atoms, simultaneously having both alkylene and a bond selected from either an ether bond or ester bond; R1 and R2 are independently a monovalent organic group; p1 and p2 are independently an integer of 0 to 4; p is 0 or 1; and q1 and q2 are independently 1 or 2) and obtained from a dianhydride component containing a tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by formula (2) (in formula (2), R6-R9 are independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, and the like); [II] a step for irradiating the coating film obtained in [I] with polarized ultraviolet light; and [III] a step for heating the coating film obtained in [II].
